CCMA 2011 GROUP OF THE YEAR ENTERTAINS AT WHF FUNDRAISER

Wetaskiwin Barn Dance Features Great Sounds of Hey Romeo

One of the biggest events of the year is about to take place in the City of Wetaskiwin, a fundraising extravaganza for a cause that concerns each and every one of us, and a celebration where the entertainment is sure to pack the house. Taking place in the Wetaskiwin Drill Hall on October 15, this year's 4th Annual Barn Dance & Pie Social in support of the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation (WHF), will feature the outstanding sounds of Canadian award winning trio Hey Romeo, a band that has Alberta beaming proud.
Hailing from Edmonton, Stacie Roper, Rob Shapiro and Darren Gusowsky formed the group in 2002. In just a few short years Hey Romeo has sang, wrote and performed their way right through the competitive crowd of Alberta's artistic talent pool heading straight for the top. Working hard, playing countless venues and perfecting their own unique style paid off in 2008, when the band won Top New Group award from the CCMA (Canadian Country Music Association) after the release of their first album titled 'Hey Romeo'.
Just a few weeks ago, Hey Romeo won two more CCMA awards including Group or Duo of the Year category, coming out on top of a nominee list of musical excellence including Emerson Drive, Doc Walker, High Valley and The Heartbroken.
Rob Shapiro of the group won the award for Keyboards, making it his third win that category.

Singer Stacie Roper has a fantastic voice; clear, expressive and belts out a tune that seems to come right from the core. Hey Romeo's eloquent blend of upbeat urban sound cleverly synthesized with classic Country leaves the listener wanting to hear more. And that is why the City of Wetaskiwin is so excited to have the opportunity to host such excellent entertainment in support of the WHF fundraiser.
The Barn Dance & Pie Social fundraiser is an evening filled with good music, good food and good cause. A delicious dinner, live auction, and silent pie auction will take place during the evening. Previous Barn Dance fundraisers for the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation have drawn hundreds of people and raised many thousands of dollars for the Foundation that is so critical to the Wetaskiwin and surrounding area. This year, the Barn Dance is expecting to surpass previous years, and with Hey Romeo's help by providing top notch entertainment for the evening, the event is sure to be the best yet.
The Health Foundation is celebrating 25 years of supporting health care in our community. This year's proceeds will go to Seniors Health and Wellness.
