JAMMERS SUPPORT MUSIC FESTIVAL

At the Wednesday evening jam session at the Wetaskiwin Seniors' Centre, President of the Jammers Joyce Sjogren presented a cheque for $1000 to the Wetaskiwin Music Festival Association President Teresa Kirwan. The Music Festival appreciates this generous contribution very, very much, and will use the donation for scholarships and awards to the children from our community who take part in the festival this year which marks 33 years of Music Festivals in Wetaskiwin. A big, “Thank you!” is extended to the Jammers from the Wetaskiwin Music Festival Society.

The Wetaskiwin Jammers are a group of musicians who enjoy getting together to make music, mostly old time dance tunes. Every Wednesday night finds them playing at the Wetaskiwin Seniors' Centre to the enjoyment of both listeners and dancers. These are delightful evenings for visiting, listening to good music, and dancing, all for just $2. There's also coffee and snacks, as well as ticket sales and draws. Many celebrations in Wetaskiwin and area are made more enjoyable by the music of the Jammers. They also like to help young people develop as musicians, as when Teresa Kirwan's daughter used to play with them for awhile, starting when she was 13. The Jammers obviously don't take in a lot of money, but it is enough that they can make this donation to the Wetaskiwin Music Festival as well as provide some support for the Accordion Society and for the Alberta Society of Fiddlers.

Looking ahead, the Jammers will hold a Fiddlers Jamboree the second weekend of March which will feature a 13 year old girl from Rocky Mountain House. It, too, will be held at the Wetaskiwin Seniors' Centre, and will be a most enjoyable time.
