Another Fantastic Harvest Fest

Millet Harvest Fest

The night sky was light, not by the familiar stars we see each night but by radiant fireworks symbolizing the kick off of millet harvest fest. This lead us on to further exciting events including pancake breakfast, parade, and other fun activities. For those who were able to attend, they were lucky enough to enjoy this great weekend first hand.
After starting off with a bang, the weekend kept rolling starting off with a breakfast of delicious pancakes and mini sausages. People loaded up their plates, grabbed a cup of juice or coffee then sat down to eat. After everyone was plumb full they were ready to leave the legion to attend the parade. You could hear drums and noises in the wind.
Music, sirens, drums, horns, and trucks were all heard in the near distance so we all knew the parade was slowly approaching. The first thing we saw were two north RCMP officers dressed in their official red serge. They were followed by a yellow car which was owned and driven by a member of the Canadian Parliament. As we looked around the corner to see what was approaching us there was a blue truck with a float. Being hauled on that float was the mayor of millet, Rob Lorrenson. The dragon dancers were next and their enchanting float was very cool.
The next thing to make an entrance was the big yellow lions club bus. Millet minor ball, soccer and hockey all made their own floats. To my surprise the next thing were a few kids being pulled in wagons to represent millet kids indoor play society. Then we heard a roar like thunder and before we new it NASCAR cars were passing us with their mascot, Ricky Doggy. Following close behind them was a massive, burgundy semi truck representing the Teamsters Union. The funniest thing came next It was a man and women on a big purple trike. It was awesome. If you like to read, this might have been your favourite part of the parade when the big, white banner for millet public library came down the street. Then crawling slowly down the road with a banner and truck came the pipestone flyer. What‘s big and green with big wheels? You guessed it, next came the tractors. Last but not least came huge, red, noisy fire trucks and a couple of police cars.
When the parade was over people headed over to the agriplex for the activities there. Before they entered the agriplex they may have gone to the petting zoo to see the adorable animals. After that people might have gone to check out the dunk tank, tractor races, street hockey or bench show. Plus there were the teamsters singers too. They were very talented.
The harvest fest was a great way for our little town to come together and appreciate how lucky we are to live in a nice peaceful town. Every year this is an awesome celebration because every one has a blast. Thank you millet for such a fun weekend!
