Albertans Helping Albertans

“Congratulations Jeannette!  On behalf of Council, (County of Wetaskiwin) staff and residents of the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 we commend and thank you for improving the lives of many, many seniors during your 35 years of volunteerism.” These were the words used by County of Wetaskiwin Reeve Garry Dearing and Councillor Barry Dunn on September 4th, 2012 when they proudly recognized Jeanette Engblom for being nominated for the 2012 Minister’s Seniors Service Award. Jeanette is widely known throughout the community for her volunteer work with seniors. .
The Minister’s Seniors Service Awards recognize Albertans who volunteer their time to make a difference in the lives of seniors. Those recognized were acknowledged at a special ceremony in June during Seniors Week.
Now in its 15th year, the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards have recognized 88 recipients.
Since childhood, Jeanette has been well known for her ongoing service to the community and specifically to seniors. She exemplifies what the Minister of Seniors, George VanderBurg describes says when he explains the award:
“Every single day, Albertans are helping Albertans. Whether they are neighbours, friends or family members, business owners, seniors centres or community organizations, volunteers are working throughout Alberta, providing valuable, generous support to our seniors.
Seniors are one of our greatest resources. We must recognize the kindness of volunteers in our communities who do so much for our seniors. Whether it is simply helping a senior neighbour with a grocery run or planning recreational activities for community members to stay active, every selfless act by these individuals and organizations is an act of respect and honour to seniors in our province. The Minister’s Seniors Service Awards recognize all that volunteers do for seniors in Alberta.”
Thank you Jeanette for your lifelong service to the community.  Many seniors have benefitted from your kindness and generosity.
