Millet’s Biggest Loser

A young mom in Millet is attempting to make her town a healthier place to live in every sense. Certified Fitness Instructor and Health and Wellness Specialist Ashley Volkerink loves to help people reach their healthy potential, so partner that with her affection for the town she lives in, and you get the "Millet's Biggest Loser" fundraiser!
Seeing the need at the Millet Food Bank, Ashley decided to try and help in the way that made sense to her. She is organizing and taking registrations from people interested in joining Millet's Biggest Loser, which will help some people achieve their weight loss goals, as well as stocking the shelves at the food bank for those who do not have enough food to go around.
The fundraiser/challenge begins on November 3rd with registrants taking part in an initial weigh-in and having their measurements taken. Millet's Biggest Loser will run for six weeks, and participants will have their progress tracked weekly, with the final weigh-in and measurements taken on December 15th.
Participants will have access to join a weekly walking group around Millet, they will receive weekly emails with workout and nutrition tips, Ashley will be teaching a Nutrition Seminar, and three drop-in fitness classes will be held at the Millet Community Hall for a $10.00/person fee that will be donated straight to the Millet Food Bank. The Town of Millet is also supporting this cause by donating the use of the Community Hall for the fitness classes.
Upon registering for this challenge, participants agree to donate either $1.00/pound lost over the course of the fundraiser, or an equal dollar amount in groceries to pounds lost. The final amount of weight loss/donations will be tallied on December 15th and a bulk donation will be made to the food bank at that time, to help with the high demand they encounter at that time of year.
As an added incentive, prizes will be awarded to the top two people who achieve the highest percentage of weight loss. A few of the donated prizes include Epicure products, Isagenix products, a thirty minute massage, items from Aloette Spa, Blue Sky Mountain Water and Organic Tan in Leduc, amongst others.
The challenge is open to anyone over the age of 18, and you do not have to be a resident of Millet to take part. You also do not have to have a weight loss goal to participate either. If you would like to join in for the fitness benefits, nutritional information, or simply for the community spirit, you are more than welcome to take part, but a donation will be requested of you at the end of the fundraiser.
