Exciting Year for the Wetaskiwin Theatre Society

The Wetaskiwin Theatre Society and Water Works Players are re-energized and moving forward with enthusiasm into their 12th season. They eagerly anticipate having a lot of fun together as they bring quality entertainment to the community in new ways and new venues.

DINNER THEATRE AT RAM

The 2012 Fall production will be a Christmas farce, “Sorry, Wrong Chimney,” presented on the RAM theatre stage November 15th to 17th and November 22nd to 24th. On the Thursdays, November 15th and 22nd, there will be the show only, but on the Friday and Saturday evenings the show will be preceded by dinner in the Grand Hall, the main entrance to RAM. Tickets are available only through RAM, either at the museum or by phoning 780-361-1351 extension 242 or 282.

The stellar cast of Merv Leibel, Esther Hagen, Ross MacGregor, Don Burner, Debbie Edwards and Erik Anderson will present the hilarious mix of a Santa Claus burglar, a young married couple, a character hypnotized to think he's someone else, and more.

ENTHUSIASTIC NEW EXECUTIVE

The Society has elected a new executive headed by President Ted Eden, a bundle of energy and enthusiasm. Working with him on the executive are Vice-President Michelle Ratz, Secretary Nikki Jones, Treasurer Nick Goetz, and Artistic Director Ross MacGregor. Directors at large are Dave Comfort, Gillian Furuness, Ken Mastel, and Sheila Eichorn. They bring fresh vision and energy to their leadership of the society and long-term projects.

LATE WINTER OPENING

The demolition required within the Water Works Building is now complete, and stage construction is underway, with plans to present “The Importance of Being Earnest” on their new stage on February 22nd to 24th and March 1st to 3rd. The Oscar Wilde comedy will be directed by Ted Eden assisted by Sharyl Rains. Because this production has lower costs with no production rights and no rent, the Society looks forward to being more productive in the reconstruction within the building.

Cheryl Miller and Gillian Furuness will direct a one-act play for the Zone 1 Battle River division of the Alberta Drama Festival Association on March 8th. Previously, the Society has won awards in this competition.

At this time, the production and dates for the Water Works Players spring presentation have not been decided.

The Wetaskiwin Theatre Society is a not-for-profit registered society with charitable status and volunteer members. The whole community is fortunate that this organization has enough members with enough commitment to present high quality live theatre on a continuing basis year after year. The new executive and near completion of an important step in their building program is giving them increased energy and enthusiasm for a stellar year. They deserve equal enthusiasm in congratulations and support from the community.
