A Time and Place to Celebrate

If you are lacking in the Christmas spirit, boy have you come to the right place! Alternatively, if you are full to the brim with seasonal cheer and just looking for a place to set it free, this too, could be just what you are looking for.

This time of year can be overwhelming with events, parties, get togethers, and family commitments, but if you happen to find yourself with some time on your hands and looking for some Christmas-y entertainment, please keep reading because this article could keep you running right through January!

There are so many fun and interesting things happening in Leduc and county at this time of year, but it can be frustrating to hear about a great event you would have loved to attend but it has already passed. So, dear reader, in an attempt to ease your holiday stress and bring a little more Yuletide joy into your life, we have put together as complete a list of events as we were able to find, all here at a glance to help bring you a little Christmas peace and joy at the same time.

Beginning on December 3rd through January 2nd, Country Christmas Lights runs seven days a week, with Santa Claus live on site every Friday and Saturday with gifts for the kids. Donations of cash or food are gratefully accepted for the Leduc Food Bank. Find them by driving west on Hwy 39, turn south on RR 260 and head down to TWP 492.

December 4, 6, 11 & 13, 2-4:00 pm, Christmas Teas at Dr. Woods House Museum in Leduc. Enjoy apple dessert a la mode, old fashioned dainties and tea in a beautiful, old time atmosphere. There is a charge for this event.

December 5th, 6-8:30 pm, make a glass block Christmas ornament at the Leduc Public Library. Create your own sparkly Christmas decoration using a glass block, lights and bows. All supplies are provided, $15.00/ person.

December 6th, 6-8:00 pm, weather permitting, Christmas In The Park in Calmar. Taking place at Woodland Park, Santa will be there, along with sleigh rides, a snowman building contest, a bonfire, and hot chocolate and cookies. This event is free of charge.

December 8th, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, Calmar's Christmas Crafts and Bake Sale. Taking place at the Calmar Elementary School, Santa will be on site from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, as well as all sorts of unique home made crafts and baking for sale. Admission is free.

December 10th, 6:00 pm in Millet and 7:00 pm in Leduc, CP Holiday Train. The train will be stopping across the highway from Leanne's in Millet and at the No Frills Parking lot in Leduc. Featuring a live performance by country artist Doc Walker, with donations gratefully accepted for the local food banks. This is a free event.

December 12th, 2-4:00 pm, Christmas Tea at the Library. Come and enjoy some tea, Christmas goodies and holiday atmosphere at the Leduc Public Library. This event is free.

December 14, 15 & 16, 6-10-30 pm, It's A Wonderful Life live radio play with dinner at the Devon Community Centre. Performed by the East of 60 Dinner Theatre, you can enjoy a lovely dinner buffet while you watch and listen to "It's A Wonderful Life" performed as an old time radio play. Ticketed event.

December 16th, midnight to midnight, Leduc's first annual Christmas Bird Count. Keep track of all the birds you see and hear that day, write them down and report it to help the Audubon Society. For more information (ie: count sheets, contact info, go to www.christmasbirdcount.org or call Andy Tait at 780-980-0858). Free event.

December 25th, 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Blackjacks Roadhouse in Nisku. Following in his father's footsteps, Clarence Shields continues with the tradition of a free Christmas buffet for one and all to ensure no one goes hungry on Christmas. Donations gratefully accepted for the Leduc Food Bank.

December 31st, 6-8:30 pm, Family First Night Celebrations at Mike Karbonik Arena in Calmar. Fireworks, bonfire, hot chocolate, hot dogs, skating and door prizes amongst other things, all for free at this event.

There are so many more events taking place in our area during the holiday season but unfortunately there were many which did not have any details available as of yet. So this list was as complete as we could make it and we hope it brings an extra measure of Christmas cheer to your holiday planning!
