Old Church, New Name
GATEWAY FAMILY CHURCH was born recently in the City of Leduc. Born not of thin air and dreams, but more appropriately, reborn on the foundation of thirty years of spirit-filled success and holy passion. The Leduc Family Worship Centre on Black Gold Drive has a new name, one that was inspired by a time of prayer, and a simple wish: that their church would become more diligent in being a gateway for God to come into the world through this congregation and its leaders, and that the church would become a effective gateway for its parishioners and community members to enter God’s kingdom.
Pastor Landen Dorsch, the church’s leader for the past five years, is thrilled about the latest challenge. Everything is in place for the official name change, as the congregational vote was positive and unanimous, and the Pentecostal Assembly of Canada has approved it. On January 6, a Pentecostal Assembly representative attended the Sunday service and gave his blessing to that ominous decision.
All that is left to do is for the exterior signage to be designed, built and installed. This will be completed in the next few weeks. As Pastor Dorsch shared: “Every door has two directions, so… for God to come into our lives, and for us to aim at entering God’s kingdom is a simple way of looking at the term “gateway”.
The best traditions will be upheld in this dynamic church’s yearly activities. Focused on providing the community at large with public celebrations, both on Sundays and special occasions, the Gateway Family Church will continue its Family Day event (coming in February) and Canada Day’s annual family fun. Amy Frey is the church’s Youth & Children’s Ministries Pastor. Her passion, skills and devotion to ministering to children has been inspiring to the congregation and its guests, as 60 to 100 children attend Children’s Church every Sunday!
Josh Frey, Amy’s brother, is of the same cloth: his passion, musical skills and tireless energy as the Worship & Young Adults Pastor has been a driving force in the development of the young adult’s Christian walk, and in the leadership of the twenty-member worship team, where non-traditional hymns are performed to the congregation’s pleasure and inspiration.
Significant funds have been raised and invested in the audio-visual and lights in the recent past. A 25ft wide, 12ft high screen has been added to the stage. This is an awesome improvement that will contribute to the heightened worship times at Gateway Family Church.
