New Year, New Help At Griffiths-Scott

The new year has set in and the chilling weather of December is over. All students are back to school and only a week in, and already can’t wait till spring break. Basketball season has officially started and the Griffiths-Scott talent show, having already come and gone. Also leadership has taken a great step into making the world a better place and showing that we are a UNESCO school.
Basketball season has come to a beginning. Griffiths- Scott has two teams, senior boys and then a senior girls team. The boys first game was Tuesday, January 15 and the girls first game will be on Tuesday, January 22. I don’t yet know what the game turnouts for the boys were but I will let you know next week as well as the girls turnouts. Hopefully the Griffins will kick butt and win a medal or even better gold to really show off our skills. The coaches are really pushing the teams to make them the best they can be.
The talent show that happened was great. There were singers, dancers and even a piano player. Every one in the talent show was great and did an amazing job. To get up in front of people is tough but everyone in the talent show did it. Montana was one of the dancers that danced in the talent show. She was amazing and did a great job. Hopefully she will keep dancing and be in the next talent show, well everyone that was in it should be in the next talent show. Lets give a round of applause for everyone who participated in the talent show.
The big step leadership made to make the world a better place was making our school participate in the 30km walk for Ashinaga [NGO]. Ashinaga Non-Governmental Organization is a non-profit organization that was established to provide emotional and educational support for children left orphaned by the 2011 tsunami that struck Japan. This walk is to continue helping people in Japan. The storm may be over but the damage and tears are still there. All you have to imagine is, losing your home, family, and all your belongings. Owning only the clothes on your body. If you were in that situation you would pray for help so this is why people still need to help the people in Japan.
The walk will take place in the school hallway during the lunch-time break. Students will walk the hallway 11 times (door to door) for every km. This mean that students that participate, will have to walk the hallway 330 times to get to the goal of 30km. Your probably thinking how do people keep track? Well its simple there will be tally stations at the end on each hallway. For students to be able to organize this event it took time but they did it and it is one more step forward to making the world a better place. So thank those few students who did this, and also give them a big round of applause.
As the world keeps turning people are helping people all over the world. For Griffiths-Scott to be helping people feels great because when we help them they will help us back if there was ever a devastation here, where my home and your home lay.
