On a weekend overshadowed by the CJHL Allstar Game it was business as usual for regular season games. The Icemen came out of the weekend unblemished with a 5-4 OT victory against the Edmonton Mustangs on Friday and Sunday’s 3-2 win against the Beaumont Chiefs.
Facing the Edmonton Mustangs at home on Friday had Icemen Captain Dylan McKay leading the team with the OT winner and finishing the game with a hat trick. Dylan Weaver and Suede Omeasoo also scored. McKay finished off his hat trick at 1:24 of OT with a beautiful deke on Mustang goalie Mike De Girolama.
Sunday’s 3-2 win against the Beaumont Chiefs was the 10th win in a row for the high flying Wetaskiwin Icemen. The game featured a Teddy Bear Toss for Wetaskiwin Victim Services with proceeds going to Wetaskiwin Victim Services.
The Icemen deserve a break after an intense unrelenting weekend. They can go off to practice this week with a major sense of accomplishment. With six more games remaining on the regular season schedule before playoffs start the team sits in 1st place in the Eastern division and things look good. Keep it up Icemen.
Next up for the Icemen is a Friday Jan. 18th road game at 8:30pm against second place East Division Sherwood Park Knights. The following weekend the Icemen are back home for a Jan. 25th 7:30pm start against the Strathcona Bruins.
