Icemen Finally Lose One

The old saying “you can’t win them all’ certainly holds true in the world of sports. After a ten game win streak the Wetaskiwin Icemen took a 4-2 loss on Friday night against nemesis Sherwood Park Knights.
After a busy previous week with seven Icemen players playing in Allstar and regular season games, this week was not quite as much fun. Playing in Sherwood Park the Icemen had their hands full with their number one rival in the Eastern Division. They started off okay with Chris Sharkey in net, and Suede Omeasoo scoring an unassisted goal at 17:54 of the first. The Icemen were able to hold the Knights off the scoreboard for the first period and a half. Going into the third tied 1-1 it was pretty much all Sherwood Park after that. Ryley Bennefield scored for the Icemen but it was not enough. The game ended with Sherwood Park taking a 4-2 win and a couple points to put them one point behind the Icemen in the East Division.
Sometimes it is good to take a loss to put things back in perspective. With five games remaining on the regular schedule and playoffs looming you don’t want to get too cocky. Hopefully the team can go back to practice this week and regroup, and get ready for the final push.
The next game is at home on Friday Jan. 25th at 7:30 against the Strathcona Bruins.
