Cap Power Assists Paving Project

   The Warburg Pioneer Ag Society parking lot paving project recently received a welcome boost. On Wednesday, January 16, 2013, Genesee Power Plant Manager Sean Furey and Jen Linder (Capital Power Project Coordinator), along with Lee Simants (Capital Power Public Consultation), presented a cheque for $2,000 to Warburg Pioneer Ag Society representatives Leslie Nemeth and Joan Hall. The donation will be applied toward the cost of paving the parking areas to the north of the arena, around the Pioneer Rec Centre, and around the Legion Hall.
   “Capital Power is pleased to provide support to local community organizations,” said Furey. “The Warburg Pioneer Ag Society’s paving project will provide benefit to the Village of Warburg and we are happy to be a part of the project.”
   “We are really pleased that Capital Power is supporting local projects,” said Chair Les Nemeth on behalf of the appreciative Ag Society.
   According to Ag Society Treasurer Joan Hall, the project contractor West-Can Seal Coating Inc. began Phase One with land prep work, excavation and gravelling in 2012. Phase Two—the asphalt layers—will proceed after the groundwork is completed and as weather permits. The project contractor is the “same paving contractor that the Village uses for its roads plan, allowing substantial project savings and the added benefit of getting engineering, drainage and curbs.”
   Members of the Warburg Pioneer Ag Society, some twenty members strong, have been diligently fundraising at the casino in Camrose and at monthly bingos in Leduc. Thanks to the provincial Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant of $80 thousand presented by Honourable Diana McQueen, MLA for Drayton Valley-Calmar and thanks to casino fundraising of $20 thousand, the first installment—a little over $100 thousand—has been paid on the estimated $280,000 plus project.
