Local Author Working Towards Book 2

Since her first book was released last fall, Leduc's Amanda Myrfield has sold more than half of the first printed copies and is already looking at a second printing.
"I never thought it would be this big," Myrfield said in an interview with the Pipestone Flyer.
"It's been so much more than what I thought it could be," she said about the success of the book so far. "People like the story and that's what's important."
Her novel, the first in a planned series of six, is titled The Dagger of Souls. The book follows Megan McAllister, who comes from an abusive and broken home. Megan soon learns that she is part of an ancient power, that proves she is anything but an ordinary high school graduate.
Myrfield, who is an officer with the Edmonton Police Service, has been writing as a hobby for most of her life.
When she sat down to write the first draft of her book, Dagger of Souls, Myrfield never even planned on letting anyone else read it, let alone publish it.
Before the holiday season, Myrfield held a number of book signings across the Edmonton area and in Calgary, where she was able to meet with people and talk about the book and the publishing process.
But after finishing a rough draft and letting a few of her close family and friends read it, they all pushed her to have the book published.
After researching the publishing process itself, Myrfield decided to self-publish the book.
"We looked at what the publisher owns and what they have the rights to. I just couldn't do that. This is my baby," she said about the decision to start her own publishing company, Love Light Creations.
Myrfield's book is also available online as an ebook as well as in hard copy, but Myrfield says most of her sales have come from the book itself.
"If we would have just done an ebook it would have failed," she answered bluntly. "People want the actual book. Ebooks might be where we are going, but right now people still want the actual book."
Besides the individual sales, Myrfield says she has had several book clubs approach her about using her book in their club for discussion.
Myrfield said if any book club is interested in her novel, Dagger of Souls, they can contact her and she can have the books delivered personally, instead of them having to worry about shipping costs.
Myrfield and a number of other local authors will take part in a reading and discussion panel at the Leduc Public Library on Feb. 6.
Myrfield is looking forward to the opportunity to talk with other local authors like herself.
"I'm always surprised by how many people out there do write (as a hobby)," she said.
"When I tell people I wrote a book, I still think its completely out there. I wrote a book, that's crazy. But I've been approached by a lot of people, even in the EPS, who are writers," she added.
"There are a lot of people out there who actually enjoy writing."
Now that Myrfield has completed the first draft of her second book, she said she would like to look at helping to get other authors published through her company.
