Buck Lake Funding Announced

BUCK LAKE, ALBERTA – On Feb. 20, Blaine Calkins, Member of Parliament for Wetaskiwin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Buck Lake Agricultural Society under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
   “I am proud to see the Community of Buck Lake benefit from our Government’s support for community infrastructure,” said MP Calkins. “By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”
   The Harper Government’s investment of $8,218 will support a number of improvements to the Buck Lake Community Centre, including upgrades to the facility’s front entrance and graveled parking lot, as well as the addition of two outdoor basketball nets. These upgrades will increase the facility’s accessibility and ensure that residents can continue to enjoy this recreational space for years to come.
   “On behalf of the Buck Lake Agricultural Society, I would like to thank MP Calkins and the Government of Canada for supporting this project,” said Gil Lechelt, President of the Buck Lake Agricultural Society. “Not only will these upgrades improve the appearance of the Community Centre, it will also provide patrons with limited mobility easier access into the Centre.”
   In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
