Beaumont Goes to Provincials

The Beaumont Bandits Mixed Curling team advanced to the Alberta Schools Athletic Association’s (ASAA) Curling Provincial Championships. They were awarded a spot in the championships when they won the Edmonton Zone Championships on Feb 22.
    In the zone playoffs Beaumont won the seven-team double elimination tournament by going undefeated. Beaumont advanced to the A side semifinals with a bye then defeated Jasper Place in the semifinal game. In then A final they knocked off Harry Ainlay. The A/B final saw the Bandits faced the Rebels from Jasper Place for the second time. Beaumont defeated the Rebels 9 to 5 and advanced to the Provincial championships held in Bonnyville on March 1st & 2nd.
    The ASAA Championships began for Beaumont on March 1st in a pool that included schools from Vermilion, Morrin, and Donnelly. The top two teams advanced to the playoff round. In Beaumont’s first game they faced J.R. Robson from Vermilion with Robson winning in a close game 9 to 7. The Bandits then lost a nail biter 7 to 6 against Morrin before returning to the ice to edge out G. P. Vanier from Donnelly 7 to 6. Beaumont’s record placed them third in the Pool and ended their season. Morrin advanced to the finals where they were defeated by Dr. Folkins School from Chauvin for the ASAA’s Mixed Championship.
    Representing Beaumont were Brooke Gelasco, Lynelle Mahe, Joseph Moore, Jaeden O'Connor, and Nicolas Villeneuve (pictured).
