Overcoming Our Past
Your past does not have to determine your future.
Vol 15. Issue 9, Leduc - Wetaskiwin Pipestone Flyer
This is the primary message of Maury Blair who will be speaking at the MAYOR’S PRAYER BREAKFAST on April 9th as well as at a number of other places in the area from April 7th to 11th. He speaks from the experience of having his own life turn around through God’s power, and from helping countless others find freedom through Jesus Christ from their past and addictions. He was healed for ministry.
Blair’s autobiographical book, Child of Woe, tells of the more than 13 years during which he grew up with the constant physical and emotional abuse of a stepfather who rejected and hated him. Finally, the violent, depressed and suicidal teenager encountered the book Stay Alive All of Your Life by Norman Vincent Peale, and thereby discovered, at age 19, that someone did love him. Child of Woe has been translated into a number of other languages and opened the doors for him to share his message in prisons, schools, detention centres and churches around the world and across North America. He has been on many TV and radio programs. Blair was the founder of Breakthrough Ministries, and a founding member of Teen Challenge in Canada. For twenty years, Blair was the Director of Teen Challenge residential treatment centres for youthful drug addicts and alcoholics in Vancouver or Toronto. In 1984, Maury Blair received an Ontario Bicentennial Medal for his services across Ontario.
Blair knows that “Your past does not have to determine your future.” Help is available, and you can deal with your pain now, or you will have to face it later. Until you get that help and deal with the pain, it will affect every relationship. This message, delivered by a survivor of child abuse, has a very positive impact.
In the Wetaskiwin area, Blair will be the speaker at the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Calvary Baptist Church at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9th. He will also speak to youth in a variety of settings, including the Youth Unlimited outreach of the Life Gate Church, and in some of the Four Bands’ schools at Hobbema. Sunday morning he will be at Full Gospel Fellowship, and Sunday evening at the Church of God. There is ample opportunity for most of us to hear his freeing message, so let’s take advantage of it and fill every place where he speaks.
