If “Laughter is the best medicine,” then an evening at “Squabbles” is just what the doctor ordered. “Squabbles” is the Water Works Players production running April 28th, 29th, 30th, and May 5th, 6th, and 7th. On the Thursdays and Fridays, doors open at 7:15 p.m. with curtains at 8:00 p.m. For the Saturday Dinner Theatres, doors open at 6:15 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and curtains at 8:00 p.m.

Please note that the Sunday, May 1st performance has been cancelled, as an expected bus group has not been able to come.

A young couple finds themselves expecting their first baby at the same time that her father and his mother expect to live with them. Her father and his mother can't stand each other, so the stage is obviously set for many hilarious verbal duals. Some off-beat neighbours add to the humour. The very funny lines are clever juxtapositions and verbal twists; never off-colour or cruel.

The “curmudgeon” of a father-in-law, Abe Dreyfus, is played with obvious enjoyment and exuberance by Ted Eden. I was pleased to see the following paragraph conclude the President's Message:

“Sometimes in a group there is one who has that ability to bring out the best of us. That one person, who makes everyone feel a little better about themselves. We have such a person. In any production or endeavour this man has brought with him his talents, wisdom and calming presence. He has been known to say a prayer or two upon request of the cast before a performance to help settle nerves. We would like to show our appreciation for a member who has touched us all by dedicating the production of Squabbles to Ted Eden.”

For an evening of extreme laughter, do attend “Squabbles”. I did not see a full rehearsal, so I will be there one night to enjoy it.
