On Friday, July 29, after months of effort and heartfelt dedication came to fruition when representatives of Air Canada and its charity Kids’ Horizons gave back to the Community in the form of a large donation to the Leduc Community Hospital’s Family Care Suites Project.
Air Canada’s main charitable efforts towards the community are concentrated in one charitable group called Kids' Horizons. It is a source of pride for all of Air Canada’s employees. Kids' Horizons works in partnership with charities and non-profit organizations to offer effective programs that make a difference in the lives of young Canadians. Kids' Horizons is especially focused on the health of Canadian youth, alleviating child poverty, and answering the wishes of seriously ill children.
An employee of Air Canada and an ambassador of Kids’ Horizons, Kyle Chrystian, applied for and was awarded two tickets for an Air Canada flight, to be raffled off to generate funds for the project at the Leduc Hospital. 1999 raffle tickets were printed and sold for $5 a ticket. With the generous support of the community, and the hard work of the many Air Canada employees and community volunteers from the community selling the tickets, the raffle was a huge success and almost a complete sell out! A very special “Thank You!” to Mike Dobko, Leduc’s Volunteer of the Year, for selling a large amount the tickets.
The draw for the two Air Canada tickets took place on July 23, 2011, in Leduc, and on Friday the 29th at the Edmonton International Airport, the tickets were presented to the winner, Shelley Quinton of Calgary, formerly a Leduc resident, who has stated that she is now looking forward to a Caribbean vacation. Presenting the winning tickets to Shelley were: Kyle Chrystian, Ambassador for Air Canada’s Kids Horizons; Lorraine Popik, Executive Director of the Black Gold Health Foundation; Garry Chatman, Air Canada Edmonton Base Manager; Tammy Demers, Air Canada Edmonton Customer Service Manager; Terri Spelliscy, Air Canada Lead Customer Sales and Service Agent.
The second presentation was on behalf of Air Canada’s Dreams Take Flight charity. Dreams Take Flight is a national volunteer charitable organization dedicated to providing a trip of a lifetime to physically, mentally or socially challenged children. With the aid of Air Canada, and other national and local organizations and businesses, money is raised to make the dreams a reality in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax. Funds not required for its primary purpose can be gifted by Dreams Take Flight to other registered charities that benefit physically, mentally or socially challenged children and are within the policies adopted by Dreams Take Flight Canada.
On behalf of Air Canada’s Dreams Take Flight the Edmonton Chapter, Kyle Chrystian President and Anne Spear Vice President, presented a $10,000 donation toward the Leduc Hospital’s Family Care Suite’s project. Dreams Take Flight Edmonton is very proud to support such a worthy cause, and its representatives have shared enthusiastically their hope that their efforts can someday help and comfort the needs of the children, parents and families that will have the need to use the facility. Presenting the cheque to the Black Gold Health Foundation were Kyle Chrystian; Anne Spear; Lorraine Popik with the Black Gold Health Foundation; Tammy Demers, Customer Service Manager for Air Canada and Terri Spellicsy, Lead Customer Sales and Service Agent. With this latest contribution to the Family Care Suite Project at the Leduc Community Hospital, a cause dear to all residents of the Leduc region, it is obvious that Air Canada is an organization that proudly and dynamically supports the needs of the communities it serves!
